Gary's fundraising total announced at food-filled celebration of life

Updated: Jan 19

A glass of scotch was set out for Gary in his man-cave, where everyone gathered to celebrate his life and honour his legacy on August 21.

Gary Corcoran didn't want your typical funeral service: instead, he asked for a party with tons of food, friends and music. And that's just what he got. Almost 100 people (give or take a couple of dozen--we lost count) gathered in Paradise, Newfoundland for an all-day celebration of life for Gary on Saturday, August 21, 2021.

But the food and drink weren't the only stars of the show.

As you know, Gary asked for 100% of the proceeds from his cookbook sales to go to two charities. And Saturday was the day when Gayle took the opportunity to announce the final total raised, and made a formal presentation of cheques to both charities, right from her back porch.

Sales of the cookbook raised $127,500, split equally between Sunnybrook Hospital's ALS research program and the Rotary Club of St. John's Stokers group.

Thank you to everyone who worked on, bought, and delivered cookbooks, and to all of you who are enjoying Gary's recipes.
