How to remove the membrane from baby back ribs

Updated: Jan 21

I love any type of BBQ ribs. And here's step one in preparing your ribs for the BBQ.

For the most flavourful ribs, you should remove the membrane on the back of the ribs. This will help your sauce, marinade or the dry rub penetrate better.

Here's how:

Place ribs meat-side down on a cutting board. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs by gently inserting a butter knife between a bone and the membrane. Pick a bone in the middle. Be gentle and wiggle the knife. Get your finger between bone and the membrane. Work your finger down the bone and eventually get a second one in there. Pull membrane off. Discard. Cut ribs into 2 pieces. Now you're ready to marinade, dry rub or sauce up your ribs for cooking.
